Mindful Purchasing at Salt Shop

When I think of the word mindful, I think about being intentional, in the moment, putting thought into something and being empowered. Mindfulness means so many different things for so many people. We’ve learned it’s not easy being mindful, it takes work and dedication. We get so busy with our work and family life we can forget to stop and be present - to be in the moment. What would it look like to bring mindfulness into our shopping habits?

This past year we’ve focused a lot on purchasing with purpose. We have tried to focus on shopping local and making an effort to research companies and find out more about their ethics and sustainable practices. One company we keep going back to is Salt Shop, located on Salt Spring Island and downtown Victoria. Salt Shop’s owner Jessica Wilson, and her team, are super women who pour their heart and soul into the brand. Salt is passionate about connection, community, and ocean conservation. Three of our favourite words!

Salt was created on Salt Spring Island, hence the name SALT. Their collection is filled with sustainable items for a mindful life. With a focus on slow fashion, they aim to help you build a simple, classic, and comfortable wardrobe you love that suits every season. Their eco-conscious fabrics respect the natural surroundings both in source and in style. Salt’s materials are ethically sourced overseas and their products are designed locally and produced in Vancouver, keeping the operations close to home.

Offering men, women and now kids clothing, Salt also carries eco-conscious wellness products, outdoor cookware and more. One thing we love about Salt is they explain why they chose to bring each product into their store on their website. We appreciate brands being open and honest about their practices, sourcing and values.

Conrad and I have enjoyed Salt clothing for over a year now and can feel the quality. In the past, we have found it hard to find classic shirts and sweatshirts that don’t lose their shape over time. Now that we have found Salt, our clothes look better for longer, feel great AND are made out of sustainable materials! Shopping with purpose and choosing items that will last makes us feel good about our purchases.

We hope we can inspire you to look into your closet and perhaps see how you can make small changes that will have a positive impact on our oceans and planet forever. Salt Shop is offering 10% off for The Purposeful You fans if you use the code PURPOSEFUL10 at checkout. Shop now: www.saltshop.ca.

Happy mindful shopping from our family to yours!
