Wild Skin Care Takes 100% Natural to the Next Level

For years, consumers have not thought much about the products they put on their bodies. If that product is in a store, it must be ok for us, right? We now know that is not the case as more studies are showing the horrendous ingredients and manufacturing conditions in the beauty industry. As a result, we are seeing more natural skin care lines come onto the market and we are asking ourselves: what sets them apart besides being natural?

We found a skin care company that has been open and transparent about their practices from the beginning. Say hello to Wild Skin Care, female-founded in British Columbia. They have taken their 100% natural commitment to the next level by manufacturing to GMP standards, choosing botanical ingredients close to home, and harvesting sustainably.

Read on to learn more about these three key elements of ethical skincare!

GMP standards

GMP is short for Good Manufacturing Practices which are international rules for manufacturing cosmetic products followed by Health Canada and the US Food & Drug Administration. These products may cost more than hand-crafted products, and there is a reason for that. Products that are GMP manufactured follow ISO 22716 international guidelines that ensure that the manufacturer of your skincare product follows international standards for product manufacturing, testing, storage, handling and distribution. By purchasing GMP manufactured products, you’re receiving a product that is guaranteed effective, safe, high-quality, and reputable.

From the start, Wild Skin Care made it a priority to have their products GMP-certified. The GMP cosmetic manufacturers they work with in Vancouver test their raw material for bacteria, fungus, stability, shelf-life, non-animal safety/toxicity and preservative effectiveness.

Having the products manufactured at a GMP-certified facility means that their manufacturer has the proper equipment, a sterile lab and trained professionals that are required to handle and test the raw materials, set production controls, keep records, make sure that labelling is correct and safe and, most importantly, ensure that they are not using any prohibited ingredients or substances.

Ingredients

Wild Skin Care uses plants and botanicals from the Great Bear Rainforest of Northwest B.C., which have been used for traditional medicines by the Indigenous peoples of this land for centuries. Their products are created with a base of hand-harvested Labrador Tea and kelp from their partners, North Pacific Kelp, who harvest on Haida Gwaii. Given that the products come straight from nature and there are no pesticides, there is a risk of finding various bacteria and that’s why Wild Skin Care knew from the beginning that they would manufacture their products in a GMP-certified lab.

Harvesting sustainably

This is another aspect of the beauty industry that can be overlooked. Scientists are constantly searching for the next best natural ingredients that maximize health benefits. Take kelp for example. We know kelp has many benefits for our skin. There are methods to harvest sustainably and there are ways to decimate the plant when harvesting. Wild Skin Care takes pride in harvesting their Labrador Tea and kelp sustainably. This means they only take a small portion of the leaves and keep the plant essentially intact so that it will continue to grow and reproduce.

We appreciate the extra mile that Wild Skin Care has gone for the safety and protection of both people and the planet. Their bottles are all glass and can be recycled or reused (we love repurposing as a small vase). If you ever have any questions about their products, the Wild Skin Care team is always happy to help.
