Coastal Cabin Living
This small but mighty living room feels bigger than it is — I personally love a good before and after, so I have shared it with you below. Our living room footprint had to stay the same with our renovation, so creating higher ceilings with a shed style roof and custom windows made the space feel double the size! It truly is a unique place on the Pacific Ocean, and we wanted to capitalize on the views and natural light. I’ve shared a few of the details that made the space come together below including finishing choices, furniture and supporting local artists. Check out the before and after photo here!

Finishing Details
My two favourite details in the cabin are the black windows and the drywall returns. No trim around the window created a modern and clean feel that makes each window look like a picture. For the paint colour, we chose Benjamin Moore Alabaster OC-129 to keep it simple but with a subtle warmth. When we were deciding on flooring, we opted for vinyl flooring, which is totally the way to go with kids, pets and high traffic areas in a beautiful light oak finish. For the fireplace, we chose The Hipster 14 from Ambience Fireplaces. It's a stunning fireplace that gives a Scandinavian feel to the space, which is exactly what we were going for!
Furniture
Supporting a local store was a priority for the furniture in the living room. We worked with Nest and Nook in Sidney, Victoria BC. We gave them our dimensions, and the team was amazing at finding the right size furniture for the space! The blue Lake Cottage Sofa is deep and extremely comfortable for both the adults and kids. When it came to the chairs, I was a little worried about off white with kids, but they have a beautiful boucle texture to them that hides dirt and can easily be wiped off.
The wood side table brings warmth, and the white stump side table brings the coastal vibes to the space. Overall, I am very happy with the furniture as we have room to move around, add chairs when we have more guests over, and capitalize on all the views! Lastly, we added one of Nest & Nook’s wood mirror above a chair to bring in more coastal modern vibes, and a wood ladder for blankets.
Art
Art is a very personal choice, and over the years I have found myself feeling gravitated towards colour, movement and nature-inspired prints in our home. With the walls being a blank canvas, bringing colour and landscapes were my top choices.
Above the couch is a beautiful canvas print by Lauren Mycroft called Where The Sky Forgets. She is a local artist in Victoria, BC. We printed the canvas locally, and added a wood oak frame to bring more warm wood tones to the space. You can visit her website here.
The eagle painting in the hallway — called Watching Over — is by Misha Smart Artworks, another local artist. The eagle represents our dog, Zoey, who has since passed away. We like to view it as her spirit protecting us in while at the cabin. I love the pop of colour it adds to the space, and I do not regret adding a picture light for one minute! We wired one in knowing I would choose a meaningful print for this spot.
There we have it! All the details of our coastal living room at the cabin. We are so grateful to be collaborating with local companies and artists to bring this space to life. I can’t wait to storm watch here in the winter with my cozy wool blanket too! Cheers to winter days here in front of the fireplace, and summer mornings watching the seals wake up.
