How to Create a Cozy Cabin Bedroom
Our small but mighty bedrooms may surprise you. The bedrooms are the smallest rooms in our cabin. This was not a design mistake, in fact, it was a purposeful choice. Previously, the cabin had one long bedroom with the best view in the house, so we moved the bedroom to the back of the cabin facing north and we were able to make it into a two bedroom. The cabin is all about the water views, meals together, playing games and watching the sunsets, and we pretty much only go to our rooms to sleep when we are exhausted from a nature-filled day, so taking away the least amount of square footage from the main living space was the overall goal. This blog will show you how we made two VERY small rooms into something healthy, practical and purposeful!
Bedroom #1- The Kids Bunk Room
This bedroom was designed for a double bed. We found solid wood bunk beds online to fit the space. Our kids are still small and I liked the idea of stairs on one side of the beds instead of a ladder. We found bunks during the framing stage and actually moved the framing two inches to fit these bunks in the room. We had to think about final drywall and baseboard measurements. It all worked out! We even added storage under the bed for games and books. If you are wondering if bunk lights are worth it, THEY ARE! I am very happy we added the bunk lights as they love to read or hang out with their cousins in this space. The bedroom is 7.5×6.25 feet with a small closet if you can believe it!
Bedroom #2- The “Parents” Room
This room was designed to fit a queen bed. I’ll keep it real here, I usually fall asleep with one child and my husband falls asleep in the other room with the other. This is the stage of life were in and I think it’s truly special.
We took a long time to decide if we would do bunk beds in here or not. Why would we even consider this? Well, I was thinking ahead! I wanted to create a cabin I could come with another mama and we have our own rooms with our little ones. We also realized that queen on queen bunk beds existed and this would be the perfect solution to have everyone happy and comfortable for years! We had to move the wall 2 inches into the bathroom to make this happen, but it was worth it! Again, I am glad we thought about all of this during the framing stage! This bedroom is 9×7 feet with a small closet.
